Kryštof Janáček

Kryštof Janáček: saxophonist and actor with a distinctive artistic signature

Kryštof Janáček is a saxophonist and actor who proves that music and theatre belong together as naturally as a note and its rhythm. His performances combine a musician's precision with the expression of an experienced actor, which makes him a sought-after artist on concert and theatre stages across Moravia and Silesia.

Saxophonist and actor from an early age

He switched from clarinet to saxophone at the age of eleven and has devoted himself to it fully ever since. Today he plays both alto and tenor saxophone and can switch smoothly between them depending on the piece. This versatility lets him adapt his sound to practically any genre – from smooth jazz and funky grooves to energetic pop and hip-hop.

The acting career of a saxophonist

He studied musical theatre at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, gaining a foundation in both music and acting. As an actor he still performs in musicals at the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, and he also works in drama and puppet theatre at the Český Těšín Theatre. This combination of two artistic worlds gives his performances a unique sense of dramaturgy and atmosphere. As a saxophonist and actor in one, he tells stories not only with music but also with movement.

Musical collaborations and shared stages

Kryštof is a sought-after bandmate off the theatre stage too. He regularly plays with the hip-hop/funk band Hipnautica and is part of the music community around Ostrava and the Polish border – including Michal Žáček, Jan Kavka and other local musicians. He has also shared the stage with leading Czech artists such as Vojtěch Dyk.
